7214.02.25 - THE HUNT FOR WYVERN (Game
16, Part 1)
After entering the ancient temple, a bright flash of light and a
feeling of nausea... and Squad Gilcut arrive in a dark,
sinister metal chamber. No sign of Wyvern, but a
corridor extends into the darkness ahead...
Proceeding down the corridor, the squad silently wonders where
they are. The walls are covered with technology none of them
recognize. Ominous thrumming noises can be heard in the depths
of the place, and a cold, stale chill permeates the place.
Soon they come upon a strange sight- an ancient, damaged
Fatty. But how did the Balarant AT get there? The pilot,
long since dead, offers no clues. The squad moves on...
...and comes across an even more sinister looking area, filled with
dark technology, ominous pulsing red glows emanating from the walls.
Whoever built this place had a sinister interest in genetics, as the
team looks on at some truly bizarre lifeforms held in suspended
animation.
Some of the creatures appear to be gigantic humanoids, as if someone
had attempted to create the ultimate warrior evolution, but
something went wrong...
Even more horrifying, some of the creatures appeared to be alive and
watching the team as they explored the gruesome gallery of
experiments.
But the final chamber contained a sight all too familiar to the
team- those awful creatures seen both on the deserts of Sunsa and
the jungles of Darkstar... here held in a stasis field! It is
possible that whoever created these horrific things also had the
means to spread them across the galaxy.
But their horror show is interrupted by distant gunfire.
Perhaps their target? Sure enough, rounding the corner, the
team can see Wyvern engaged in a battle with one of the reanimated
creatures!
Quey wastes no time, interrupting the fight with a barrage of
rockets and missiles, but Wyvern's Rabidlydog is too agile, dodging
the shots with ease.
With the beast's attention now drawn to Quey's Snapping Turtle, Chet
steps in and shells the beast with his Solid Shooter.
Meanwhile, Pent's Strike Dog engages Wyvern, unloading an entire
salvo of rockets that do only minor damage to the Rabidlydog.
Wyvern manages to dash past the squad members, knocking Chet's
Shadowflare aside.
The team chase after Wyvern, who slips through an ominous doorway
that slams shut behind him.
Quey responds in the usual manner, blasting the doors to bits before
anyone else can even suggest hacking through.
But once inside, there's no sign of Wyvern- only a powered down and
empty Rabidlydog, and an ominous glowing portal to who knows
where. Too small for ATs, the team finally commits to going
through on foot...
